"Cypriot Flavours" (2014)

In November 2014 the Museum organized the first Pancyprian Conference devoted to the Cypriot Gastronomic Culture. Aim of the conference was to question and discuss food and nutrition in Cyprus diachronically and through different perspectives such as education, culture, hospitality and tourism. The two-day conference was divided in six different thematic sections and twenty two papers were presented.

In February 2014 the Museum announced an online photographic contest under the general subject of Cypriot traditional gastronomy. The contest aimed at encouraging people of all ages to participate in the recording of the Cypriot gastronomic culture through the art of photography and be involved in its preservation and promotion.The public could vote for the submitted images and the fifty most popular ones were examined by a committee who decided on the six winning images. More than one hundred photographs that had participated in the contest were presented in an exhibition that took place in the 'Caves' of Acropolis Park in Nicosia.

From 2013 to 2015 the Museum organized in collaboration with Intercollege a culinary contest for children and youth from 10 to 18 years old. The contest was supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The participants submitted their recipes and twelve of them were chosen to participate in the final stage of the contest where they had to cook their recipe in front of the public. During these three years 650 recipes were submitted and the Museum aims to classify and publish them soon.

In 2014 the Museum organized in collaboration with American College four Cypriot traditional cuisine workshops. The workshops took place between January and April and combined theory with practice. The main aim of the workshops was the participants to meet traditional and sometimes forgotten tastes, to get familiar with the taste, smell and ingredients of Mediterranean cuisine and to regognize the value of the homemade healthy food.

The Museum emphasizes in the organizing of activities and events in an effort to engage and involve the public in the world of Cypriot Gastronomy.

"Street Food"
(2016)

“Street Food: From the Past to the Present” has been a 6-month project that included research on street food in Cyprus over time, a photographic contest, a photographic exhibition and an event that marked the end of the project. For this project the Museum collaborated with the Photography and Cinematography Club of Egkomi.The event, that took place at Goethe-Institut on March 23rd, aimed to highlight the different perspectives of street food as a cultural phenomenon, as well as to effectively engage the audience’s senses and intellect by providing interesting historical information, multiple visual stimuli, and of course the authentic tastes of the street.

The photographic exhibition featured a wide range of photos depicting Cypriot street food as a specific dietary category.
