Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum
blog
Welcome to the Cyprus Food Museum blog
The Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum (CFNM) was founded in 2012. It is a non-govermental, non-profit organization that is devoted to the research, recording, study and promotion of the gastronomic culture of Cyprus. It is a virtual museum with digital collections that could be accessed online freely by anyone interested, through the Museum's website.
The digital collection of the Museum is an example of an intangible cutural heritage collection as it is consisted by digitized information on practises, expertise, habits, beliefs and other subjects related to the Cypriot traditional gastronomy. The collection is organized in a database and it is divided into six main thematic categories: Food stuff, Recipes, Meals, Production and Distribution spaces, Production methods, Utensils and Tools. The information is published in the form of texts, images and audio. In the Museum's website the visitor could also find virtual tours to museums in Cyprus that are related to food, educational material, a section on historical food advertisement in Cyprus and the latest news for the Museum's actions and events.
The Museum has been created for the general public as a reservoir for the future. Our ideology is that it belongs to everyone and that everyone could contribute for its development and enrichment with suggestions, comments, collaborations and submission of related material.
Currently the website and database of CFNM are in Greek so we hope that this blog could be the bridge with our english speaking audience.
