KOURELLIN
The kourellin was a type of crock pot with a spherical body, a rounded base, a low neck ending in a rounded rim, and two vertical handles. Its lid, often convex or concave, also had a small handle at the centre. This specific type of pot was produced at Kornos and Foini. It was used for cooking on an open hearth, as well as in the oven. A second type of vessel bearing the same name was produced at Famagusta. It had no neck and it was used for cooking ttavas, a dish with meat, potatoes and onions, cooked in the oven.
The kourellin of the Bee and Embroidery Museum is decorated along the shoulder with a band of stamped lozenges.
