KOURELLOS
Kourellos or vazos or kouzos was a type of earthenware storage vessel, which was primarily manufactured at the Lapithos pottery workshops, but spread to all parts of the island. Vessels of this type had a flat base, tall ovoid body, short neck with a wide mouth and two vertical, strap handles at the upper part. They usually had a glazed interior and upper exterior body. Due to this glaze, the kourelli were well insulated, which led to their adoption as a popular and highly suitable storage vessel. Usually halloumi (Cyprus cheese), and other foodstuffs were stored in kourelli.
